Find Balance with me, a little more water here, a smaller stem over there. We will maintain it together.
In El Quesada’s work, neon tubes are taken outside of their intended use to create an impulsive sense of unease when the glass is stacked, heavy with water. This tension is balanced by the grounding presence of petit blooms and propagations of new life.
“This specific series emphasizes the steps we take to find our individual “happy medium”. This can often feel like a back-and-forth in the mind. Two steps forward, one step back. Creating this collection was a meditation in challenging my own internal narratives of security, risk, comfort, and contingency.”

The glass in this series reflect my experienced emotions and anxieties, highlighting themes of balance and tension. pushing the bounds of neon by using the tubing in this way, I test the strength and versatility of the glass to create something that invokes a reflex of unease. This feeling is countered by the comfort nature provides in its active growth seen through the propagations and blooms.
